Aiguines

Aiguines is located above Lake Sainte-Croix and is known for its views over the turquoise water and its tradition of woodturning. The village retains a Provençal layout, with streets adapted to the slope, typical of settlements built around the lake.

My view

Wikipedia describes Aiguines briefly, and that is largely sufficient. This is not a place that needs an extended history or a long introduction. Aiguines exists mainly because of where it is.

It is a small village that does not compete with others in character or attractions. Its meaning appears only in the context of Lake Sainte-Croix and Verdon Gorge. On its own, it is calm — almost quiet.

A viewpoint, not a destination

Aiguines works best as a viewpoint and a transitional stop, not as a place for long sightseeing. The view over the turquoise water of Lake Sainte-Croix leaves a stronger impression than the village itself.

It is one of those places where you:

  • stop for a moment,
  • look around,
  • move on.

And that is completely fine.

The calm side of Provence

Unlike towns on the French Riviera, Aiguines has no seasonal intensity. It remains calm even in summer. This is the regional backcountry, where everything moves more slowly and quietly.

For some, this is an advantage; for others, a drawback — depending on what they are looking for.

Is it worth it

Aiguines is worth seeing if:

  • you are already near Lake Sainte-Croix or Verdon Gorge,
  • you value views and open space,
  • you are looking for a quiet fragment of a route without crowds.

It may disappoint if:

  • you are looking for a town with attractions,
  • you want to spend several hours sightseeing,
  • you expect a strong “wow effect” from the village itself.

For me, Aiguines is a short stop that makes sense only in the right context. And that is exactly how it should be treated.

How this place fits into my tours

This place appears in my routes when it naturally fits the day, the direction of travel, and the season. Sometimes it is one of the main points of the tour; other times it is a quiet stage along the way. It all depends on how the day is planned.

I treat ready-made tours as a starting point, not a closed script. If something needs to be shortened, extended, reordered, or combined with another place, we adjust as we go. We don’t move “from point to point”—we build a day that makes sense and feels comfortable.

You can see this place in tours such as:

If none of the ready-made routes fits perfectly, a tailor-made tour offers full flexibility. We can focus on one place, combine several stops, or build the day entirely from scratch. I take care of the route and logistics, and the plan is adjusted to you—not the other way around.

  • Kanion Verdon

    Tour: Verdon Gorge

We travel to Verdon Gorge and Lake Sainte-Croix, where the water shifts from turquoise to deep green and the canyon walls reveal a scale photos cannot capture. Along the way there are viewpoints, small towns and places where you naturally want to stop and take it all in.

  • Planer

Tour: A Day Exclusively for You

This is a day without a preset plan. We can focus on one place, combine several towns or follow a specific theme. The route is shaped entirely around what you want to see – Nice, the coast, the hills or less obvious locations away from the main routes.
