The route includes Saint-Tropez, Port Grimaud and Cannes – towns known from films, festivals and iconic harbour scenes. From former film locations to promenades and marinas, this tour shows the French Riviera as it appears in European cinema and popular culture.

The aim of this tour is to explore key film-related locations of the French Riviera: Saint-Tropez, Port Grimaud, and Cannes.
Each of them has a distinct cinematic identity.

In Saint-Tropez, many French films were made, including the famous Gendarme series connected with Louis de Funès and Brigitte Bardot. The town is also home to the Museum of Gendarmerie and Cinema, one of the most interesting film-related museums in this part of France.

Next, we visit Port Grimaud, often called the Provençal Venice. Colourful houses, canals, and boats create a scenery that feels cinematic by nature. This is one of the places best experienced from the water, which is why a short cruise or an electric boat rental is possible.

The day ends in Cannes, the city of the Film Festival. This is where you find the famous red carpet, the Palais des Festivals, La Croisette promenade, and Hotel Carlton, frequently featured in film productions.

The tour runs all year round.

1 June – 31 August
Hours: 07:30 – 20:00

1 September – 31 May
Hours may be slightly adjusted depending on daylight, weather, and group preferences.

Tours are organised in small groups of up to 6 people. Start and return are always in Nice.

This is a relaxed car-based tour with several longer walks.

Recommended:

  • comfortable shoes,
  • head cover in summer,
  • a light extra layer in spring and autumn,
  • water and a small snack,
  • camera or phone – the locations are highly photogenic.

Transport is provided in a Mercedes V-Class van, well suited for the longer Nice–Saint-Tropez route.

Minimum participant age: 4 years.

The tour lasts approximately 07:30 – 20:00.
It is a full day with longer drives, balanced by regular stops and walks:

  • Nice → Saint-Tropez
  • Saint-Tropez → Port Grimaud
  • Port Grimaud → Cannes
  • Return to Nice

The plan is flexible. With a faster pace, it is possible to add a short visit to Grasse and the Fragonard perfumery before reaching Cannes.

Pick-ups from eastern locations (Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Menton) are possible. Times and costs are arranged individually.

Map

Nice
The city where most of my tours begin. Nice combines the energy of the port, the Promenade des Anglais, and the warm Mediterranean light that shapes the rhythm of the entire coastline. It is a natural base for exploring the French Riviera and the surrounding region.
Saint-Tropez
Saint-Tropez is a former fishing port with bright architecture and a harbour layout typical of the region’s history. Outside the high season, it keeps a calmer atmosphere. Place des Lices remains one of the town’s central and most characteristic meeting points.
Museum of Gendarmerie and Cinema in Saint-Tropez
The Museum of Gendarmerie and Cinema in Saint-Tropez is a short film-related stop connected with the history of Louis de Funès. During the Film Locations tour, I usually visit it together with a walk around the port and the old part of the town.
Port Grimaud
Grimaud is a medieval town located on the bay of Saint-Tropez, known for castle ruins and narrow stone streets. It has preserved a clear Provençal character and a readable historic layout, offering a calmer contrast to the lively harbour areas nearby.
Cannes
Cannes is known for its film festival, harbour, and wide seaside promenade. The city is clearly divided between the historic Le Suquet district and the modern waterfront. It retains the character of a Mediterranean resort with a well-defined urban structure typical of southern France.

Flow of the day

Since the early 20th century, the French Riviera has been used as a film location and a meeting place for artists and filmmakers. During this tour, I show places where cinema and everyday life meet in a natural and unforced way.

In Saint-Tropez, some of the earliest films were created, followed later by the famous Gendarme series. The port, Place des Lices, and seaside paths all retain a recognisable film atmosphere.

Port Grimaud, often called the Provençal Venice, is built around canals with boats moored directly beneath house windows. Seen from the water, its calm rhythm becomes especially clear.

In Cannes, we visit locations connected with the Film Festival, including the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals. Hotel Carlton and the surrounding promenade have appeared in numerous film productions. With good timing, an additional stop in Grasse and the Fragonard perfumery is possible.

The route between Saint-Tropez and Cannes follows the Saint-Raphaël coastline, where the red rocks of the Estérel massif contrast strongly with the turquoise Mediterranean Sea. This is one of the most visually striking coastal sections of the Riviera.
